What Wattage Induction Hob Do You Need in Malaysia?

A Malaysian home pantry is usually 1.8–2.2 kW. A restaurant pass or extra wok is 3.5–5 kW on 220–240 V. A fryer, griddle, multi-zone range or 15 kW wok station is 380–420 V three-phase plant. Buying “the biggest number” without a board schedule is how kitchens stall at commissioning.

Home versus F&B — do not mix the classes
A 2 kW domestic hob is for family pans. Putting it on a restaurant pass means slow recovery and chefs lighting gas again. Conversely, a 5 kW commercial cooker in a condo that already trips when the air-con and kettle start is a board problem, not a “powerful hob” win. Wok lines need geometry as well as kW

Frequently asked questions
Is 3.5 kW enough for a Malaysian restaurant?
For one pass cooker or a compact wok glass, often yes. It is not a substitute for a six-burner gas range. Size from the station: extra sauté versus the main wok line.
Will a higher kW hob always cook faster?
Only if the pan couples well and the supply can deliver the current. A 15 kW wok on a weak board, or a round wok on flat glass, will not beat a correctly specified 3.5 kW wok hob.
Can I run a 5 kW cooker from a 13 A socket?
Usually no. At 230 V, 5 kW is about 22 A at full output. Plan a dedicated circuit. Confirm on the rating plate and with a licensed electrician.
