Read the MC / house rules before you buy the hob
Many Kuala Lumpur and Penang high-rises restrict open-flame gas. That pushes owners toward induction — and then the same handbook may cap electrical loads, forbid hard-wiring, or require the building electrician. Ask for the kitchen electrical schedule and any approved-appliance list. A 3.5 kW commercial cooker is not a “small kitchen upgrade” on a domestic board that already runs two air-cons.
What kW a condo can usually take
Compact 1.8–2.2 kW built-in hobs are the usual pantry class. 3.5 kW is commercial-duty: possible in a penthouse or a unit with a dedicated cooker circuit, reckless on a shared 13 A kitchen ring. Use the wattage guide and send the model page to whoever signs the MC form. Do not assume “induction is low power.”
If you cannot cut the stone, do not
Finished quartz with no spare slab, rental units, and some PPA1M-style kitchens cannot take a new cut-out. That is a tabletop job, still on a proper circuit. If you can cut and ventilate the cupboard, built-in looks cleaner for guests. Installation steps: installing a built-in hob.
Neighbours, noise, and air-conditioning
Induction still needs a hood for frying. It does dump less flame-heat into a small KL kitchen, which is why enclosed condos prefer it to gas — induction vs gas. Fan noise from a cheap tabletop unit against a bedroom wall is a real complaint; sit the cooker so the intake is not muffled.

Only if the board and the MC allow that load on a dedicated circuit. Many units should stay in the ~2 kW class. Confirm with the building electrician, not with a product brochure.
Is gas banned in my high-rise?
Often restricted, not always banned. Read the house rules. Where gas is blocked, induction is the usual path — still with a hood and a correct circuit.
Can I install it myself?
A plug-in compact unit on an existing dedicated outlet is simpler than a built-in hard-wired hob. Cut-outs, new circuits, and three-phase work need competent trades. Warranty assumes the supply matches the rating plate.
