Induction Wok Cooking in Malaysia
Wok hei is a geometry problem before it is a brand problem. Match round glass to a round wok, or use a 15 kW wok station — do not park a kuali on a flat cooker and call it induction.

The only rule that matters
The pan shape must match the hob shape. A round-bottom wok on flat induction glass touches in a thin ring, so the coil sees a weak load and the sides stay cool. That is why Malaysian chefs say “induction cannot wok.” They tried the wrong glass.
Use a wok-glass hob (built-in AP-F35 or tabletop D350I / BT-500C2) or a dedicated station such as EW15WOKB (15 kW, 400 mm wokpan, three-phase). A flat tabletop induction cooker is for sauté pans and stockpots, not a kuali.
When gas still belongs on the wok line
Keep gas if the cook depends on a visible flame wrapping the wok, the LPG line is already legal and reliable, and the board cannot take 3.5 kW dedicated (or 15 kW three-phase). Hybrid kitchens are normal: induction at the pass or buffet, gas on the heritage wok. That is a layout decision. See induction vs gas in Malaysia.
Power: 3.5 kW wok glass versus 15 kW plant
Carbon steel, magnet, and seating
The wok must be magnetic and sit in the glass. A tiny induction disc on a round aluminium wok will not save you. Test with a fridge magnet on the bowl, not the handle. Full notes: can you use normal cookware on induction.
Where this shows up on Malaysian sites
KL and JB restaurants replacing a gas wok bank, Penang hotel live stations, Selangor mall tenants who inherited a table but no manifold. Open the commercial induction hobs category for plant, or built-in / tabletop for a single wok glass. Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur pages list typical wok models for those cities.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use my round kuali on a flat induction cooker?
It will sit badly and heat in a ring. Use a flat-bottom induction wok on flat glass, or specify a wok-glass hob / wok station.
Is AP-F35 enough instead of EW15WOKB?
AP-F35 is a built-in 3.5 kW wok hob for a counter. EW15WOKB is 15 kW three-phase plant. They are different stations. Pick from the job, not from the product photo.
Do I still need a hood?
Yes. Stir-fry smoke is oil, not gas combustion. Induction removes the flame, not the extraction requirement.

Can You Use Normal Cookware on an Induction Hob?
“Normal cookware” is not one thing. If a magnet sticks firmly to the base, it will usually heat. Round woks, aluminium pots, and glass need a different answer.
What Wattage Induction Hob Do You Need in Malaysia?
Wattage is the first number the electrician needs. This page maps 2 kW pantries, 3.5–5 kW restaurant cookers, and 10–15 kW wok plant onto typical Malaysian supplies.
